Before we decide our storyline and narrative we decided to conduct a questionnaire for our audience to get a better idea of what our target audience are in to in terms of music video styles and genres.
We asked 20 people, 10 being females and the other 10 males, aged between 16-21 the following questions; 'Do you prefer narrative videos or performance videos?', 30% out of 100% said they prefer performance rather than narrative and 70% said they preferred narrative. We have concluded that our video will be of a narrative style as we feel that our audience will be able to understand and enjoy the meaning of the song more.
We gave our audience the choice of four artists from the R&B genre asking 'Out of these four artists who is you most preferred?' we asked this question in order to see which R&B famous artist would be the most liked. 60% said Drake which coincidentally is the artist of the original version of our chosen song. We feel this artist gained the most votes because he has a global status as well as his lyrics connect with our target audience as he discusses issues such as love and break up in a poetic and understandable way.
In order to ensure that our target audience actually value music videos we asked 'Do music videos influence your choice in music?' 60% said yes which gives us great hope and encouragement that our audience will enjoy our video whereas 30% said no so we hope by making this music video we can attract them.
Our final question was 'Do you think music videos are still important?' 75% answered yes and the other 25% thought no.
When we asked why many said it is because once they hear the song they're more interested in just downloading it rather than paying attention to the video its self. Due to this result we have set our mind to making a music video that engages our audience.

We are mainly aiming our video towards a female audience however we also know it is inevitable that a male audience will also be attracted to our video too as they would part of our crossover audience.
There was an interesting contrast in some of the answers we received.
