Marvins Room (Cant do better) Jojo

Lyrics

"Marvin's Room (Can't Do Better)"
[Phone Call]
Hello? I'm out right now, just been drinking, Jack
What are you doing, I miss you
You wanna come over?
Oh who you with? Are you alone?

[Verse 1]
I've been up three days
Adderall and Redbull
This call is a mistake
There’s something strong in this water bottle
I hear you got a new chick
A dancing little Barbie doll
I feel so pathetic
But you still haven’t heard it all

[Chorus]
Fuck that new girl that you like so bad
She’s not crazy like me, I bet you like that
I said fuck that new girl that’s been in your bed
And when you’re in her I know I’m in your head
(Are you drunk right now?)
I’m just saying you can't do better
Always turned you out every time we were together
(You know I didn't mean that)
Once you had the best boy you can’t do better
(You should come over, what are you doing?)
Baby I’m the best so you can’t do better

(oh ohhh ohhh oh ohhh)

(Right)

[Verse 2]
I ran into your homeboys
They’re all fucking idiots
You’re not even my boyfriend
But They're tripping cause I’m in the club
Yeah that’s right I’m dancing
And something cool is in my cup
I’ma send a sexy picture
To remind you what you’ve given up

[Chorus]
Fuck that new girl that you like so bad
She’s not crazy like me, I bet you like that
I said fuck that new girl that’s been in your bed
And when you’re in her I know I’m in your head
(Right)
I mean, I’m just saying you can't do better
Always turned you out every time we were together
Once you had the best, boy, you can’t do better
Baby, I’m the best so you can’t do better
(Baby, I’m the best so you can’t do better)

No, you can't do better
Right, yeah
Right

Sule,Vesa and I have decided that we will be using 'Marvins' Room' the JoJo cover because it has a very current, fresh vibe and this trait fits in with our target audience profile. We have also chosen this song because it doesn't actually have a music video so it will make the process of making the video much easier because everything within our video will be original and not copied from an already made video.

In addition we choose this song because out of all out options we thought that this song really had meaning to it, especially since our audience are mostly females who are able to relate to the scenarios Jojo discusses in her song.
The other songs we were deliberating on were Rather be by Jess glynne ft Clean Bandit, I will never let you down by Rita Ora, Extraordinary by Sharna Bass and Clean Bandit, Sky full of stars by Cold Play and Pretty Hurts by Beyonce. We also choose this song because we conducted our genre preference questionnaire before our song choice and the majority of results were R&B so we decided we had to correlate to our target audiences choice.

We used devices such as BBC top 40 Charts as well as our music library to help us with choosing our song.

This video is an explanation of the song in JoJo's eyes. She explains that it has explicit content which is not suitable for young ages. Like JoJo my group and I felt that we needed a mature audience who can understand the song and interpret them in a more mature way. She says that she felt "uncomfortable" singing the chorus because of the explicit language. Being the main actor in this video I can understand where JoJo is coming from because I myself feel uncomfortable singing that type of language. We have tried to find a clean version but it seems their isn't any; only versions which completely remove the explicit words which will make the video less effective amongst our target audience as they won't be as drawn to the video with out those words.

While my group and I began further research into this song and looking for inspiration we came across this video which we thought would help along the lines of filming because of the emotions shown through Jojo's use of body language. when JoJo says "Imma send a sexy picture" she puts her hand up; that is a clear reference to taking a selfie which I suggested we do using my iPhone when recording so It looks like I'm sending a "sexy picture" which will allow the audience watching to get a point of view from where the picture is being sent.
